Paws in the Park Fundraiser Helps Animals Find Homes

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Thousands of people and pets packed into Lake Eola Park for Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando’s 29th annual Paws in the Park.

9 Family Connection is a sponsor of Saturday’s event.

This event is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the nonprofit, which aims to keep animals off the streets and find homes for them.

Hundreds of animals were dressed in costumes for the Pet Costume Contest with celebrity judges and cash prizes.

If your dog has lots of energy, you can bring them down to the Splash Zone to jump off the dock, all for a good cause.

This event raises money for the Pet Alliance. A big part of that fundraising has been from the costume contest.

Channel 9 met second-place winner Bella and her owner Kayla with her bakery set-up.

“I love seeing all of the animals in the community come together. It’s for a great cause,” she said. “It’s for Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, so it’s great to help and give back.”

Pets are still available for adoption at the event if you are looking for a new furry friend.

You can also grab a bite to eat, create artwork, or visit the tents, where a Channel 9 booth will be set up. There are “human” and “canine” activities for everyone to enjoy. Pet Alliance will have its mobile vet unit at the event to provide free vaccines.

Paws in the Park runs until 4 p.m.
